Our Year 8 students have been diving into the big question: βCan Religion and Science Coexist?β π€ As part of their learning, they explored different perspectives on creation, from scientific explanations to religious and Indigenous Australian stories. To bring their knowledge to life, Miss De Giorgio and Mr Murphyβs classes recreated Indigenous creation stories through a variety of art forms. π¨ The results were not only creative and thoughtful, but also gave students a deeper appreciation of how culture, tradition, and belief can shape our understanding of the world. π Year 8 is to be commended on their outstanding job with this task, showing both creativity and deep understanding in their work! βΊοΈπ #EmmausCatholicCollege #IndigenousCreationStories #CatholicEducation

π STUDENT SPOTLIGHT π Congratulations to Year 11 students, Nicole T and Dihan G, the worthy recipients of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute School Science Award. π§ͺπ€© Established in 2004 in honour of Dr Victor Chang, the Victor Chang School Science Award celebrates gifted students, and stimulates growth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. During the presentation of the awards, guests met, and listened to Emmaus alumn, Dr Jeanette Villanueva. Dr Villanueva graduated from Emmaus in 2001, joining the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in 2015 as a Postdoctoral Scientist within the Transportation Laboratory. We express our heartfelt condolences to Greg Whitby's loved ones. Greg was a respected Principal at Emmaus Catholic College and Executive Director of the CSPD. His commitment to Catholic education was vast, inspiring educators within the CSPD and beyond. "Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen"

Recently, a group of Year 9 students visited Western Sydney University to participate in the Fast Forward program. Look out - we have some scientists in the making. π¦ π Last week, our Year 11 Chemistry class ventured to the University of New South Wales with Ms Cheruiyot to participate in a variety of workshops. Throughout the day, students performed experiments on enthalpy, and tested which catalyst is best to speed up the rate of a chemical reaction. Our students enjoyed a small taste of university life, meeting science personnel, and learning about careers in the scientific field. π§βπ¬ Such a great experience for our Year 11 Chemistry students! π #EmmausCatholicCollege #UNSW #CatholicEducation #STEM
